Variable Capacitor Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN variable capacitor market fell remarkably to $X in 2022, declining by -43.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, variable capacitor production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a drastic downturn. In 2022, Singapore (X units) represented the key exporter of variable capacitors, constituting 82% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), comprising a 16% share of total exports. Indonesia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2020 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to variable capacitor exports from Singapore stood at -39.5%. At the same time, Malaysia (+24.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +24.3% from 2020-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-24.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2020 to 2022, the share of Malaysia increased by +12 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest variable capacitor supplier in ASEAN, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore totaled +14.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+120.8% per year) and Indonesia (-76.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 37% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 166%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+88.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Variable Capacitor Imports

Imports in ASEAN

Variable capacitor imports soared to X units in 2022, picking up by 78% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 290,831% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, variable capacitor imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Vietnam represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which amounted to 68% of total imports. Malaysia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 26% share, followed by Indonesia (5.5%).

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the variable capacitors imports, with a CAGR of +1,226.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+9.1%) and Malaysia (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Vietnam (+68 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -3.8% and -55% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported variable capacitors in ASEAN, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia stood at -8.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-2.0% per year) and Vietnam (+27.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -52.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 25,880% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-10.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
