Winche And Capstan Market Size in ASEAN
After five years of decline, the ASEAN winche and capstan market increased by 5.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, winche and capstan production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 156%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, shipments abroad of winches and capstans increased by 46% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, winche and capstan exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 38%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia represented the major exporter of winches and capstans in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 58% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units) and Singapore (X units), together generating a 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X units) and the Philippines (X units) - together made up 5.5% of total exports.
Exports from Indonesia decreased at an average annual rate of -15.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+101.6%) and Thailand (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +101.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-4.7%) and Singapore (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+21 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.2 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-25.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest winche and capstan supplier in ASEAN, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 19% share.
In Singapore, winche and capstan exports shrank by an average annual rate of -11.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-3.0% per year) and Thailand (+6.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, falling by -12.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 296%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, approx. X units of winches and capstans were imported in ASEAN; picking up by 22% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, winche and capstan imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Indonesia represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which recorded 41% of total imports. Vietnam (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X units) and Thailand (X units). All these countries together held near 50% share of total imports. The following importers - Cambodia (X units) and the Philippines (X units) - together made up 7.1% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 75% of total imports. Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +11.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
