In 2021, the ASEAN vehicle windscreen wiper market decreased by -2.1% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vehicle windscreen wiper production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 22%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles exported in ASEAN surged to X units, growing by 48% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vehicle windscreen wiper exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Vietnam (X units) was the main exporter of windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles, comprising 76% of total exports. Indonesia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X units). All these countries together took approx. 20% share of total exports. Malaysia (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +34.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+28.5%) and Thailand (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Indonesia (-22.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam totaled +16.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (-3.6% per year) and Malaysia (+12.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 76% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+24.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of windscreen wipers, defrosters and demisters for motorcycles or motor vehicles increased by 57% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 26%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
