In 2022, the amount of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers exported in ASEAN declined to X tons, which is down by X% against 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, synthetic yarn exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia represented the major exporter of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers in ASEAN, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports.
Exports from Indonesia decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Vietnam (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest synthetic yarn supplier in ASEAN, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with an X% share of total exports.

Indonesia (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (X%), Malaysia (X%) and Cambodia (X%). The Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (X%), Singapore (X%) and Malaysia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (X%), Cambodia (X%) and the Philippines (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
