The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 53%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units), distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Turkey (X units), Vietnam (X units), Thailand (X units), India (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the largest exporters of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, together achieving 78% of total exports. The following exporters - Jordan (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Singapore (X units), Malaysia (X units) and South Korea (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container supplier in Asia, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.4% share.

In China, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-4.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.5% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units), followed by Cambodia (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Thailand (X units) and South Korea (X units) were the largest importers of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, together mixing up 40% of total imports. Israel (X units), Yemen (X units), Vietnam (X units), Oman (X units), Turkey (X units), Uzbekistan (X units), Palestine (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 22% share of total imports. Thailand, Israel, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Vietnam, Palestine, Oman, Hong Kong SAR and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +87.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, rising by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
