Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +62.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, aluminium foil exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 67% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together held near 17% share of total exports. South Korea (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+32.0%), Turkey (+8.5%), Japan (+7.6%) and Armenia (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +32.0% from 2012-2021. Malaysia and South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Thailand (+4.5 p.p.) and China (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia and South Korea saw its share reduced by -1.9% and -4.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest aluminium foil supplier in Asia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 6.1% share.

In China, aluminium foil exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+3.3% per year) and South Korea (-4.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +79.9% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aluminium foil imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the major importers of aluminium foil in Asia, together finishing at near 29% of total imports. China (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.8% share, followed by South Korea (7.5%), the United Arab Emirates (7%), Japan (6.5%), Indonesia (5.9%) and Saudi Arabia (5.6%). Malaysia (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 43% of total imports. Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Singapore and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
