In value terms, antibiotic exports reached $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. China was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), mixing up an 11% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of antibiotics. India (-1.5%) and Singapore (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

At the same time, Bangladesh (+8.1%), Pakistan (+5.9%), the Philippines (+5.0%) and Thailand (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +8.1% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese), Japan, South Korea and Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-1.3%), Indonesia (-1.5%), Vietnam (-2.1%) and Iran (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+14 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antibiotics in Asia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +7.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-7.3% per year) and Vietnam (+2.5% per year).

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
