Apricot Market Size in Asia

The Asian apricot market declined to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Apricot Production in Asia

In value terms, apricot production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 33%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of apricots, when their volume increased by 15% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apricot exports totaled $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Afghanistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Jordan (X tons), together mixing up a 21% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to apricot exports from Turkey stood at +3.8%. At the same time, Jordan (+7.4%), Tajikistan (+4.3%), Afghanistan (+4.2%) and Lebanon (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Armenia (-7.3%), Kyrgyzstan (-8.4%) and Uzbekistan (-23.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+11 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+4.4 p.p.), Jordan (+2.2 p.p.) and Afghanistan (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Armenia (-6.6 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (-10.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest apricot supplier in Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Jordan ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 6.6% share.

In Turkey, apricot exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Jordan (+2.7% per year) and Armenia (-1.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of apricots increased by 28% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 69%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Pakistan (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) represented the largest importers of apricots in 2022, resulting at approx. 37% and 25% of total imports, respectively. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total imports. The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Georgia (X tons) - together made up 7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +20.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Pakistan ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Iraq ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 54% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Kuwait and Georgia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +12.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
