Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 34%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, articles of fiber cement exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +86.4% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X tons) represented the key exporter of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like, constituting 59% of total exports. China (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by India (8%) and Indonesia (5.9%). Malaysia (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+27.7%), Kyrgyzstan (+13.4%), India (+11.1%), Turkey (+3.4%) and China (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+22 p.p.), Indonesia (+4.9 p.p.) and India (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of China (-5.6 p.p.) and Malaysia (-20.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), China ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 78% share of total exports. India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
Among the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +29.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2022, overseas purchases of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like increased by 5.3% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, articles of fiber cement imports rose to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 24%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The Philippines represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 45% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 7.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (6.9%) and the United Arab Emirates (5.1%). The following importers - Myanmar (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Nepal (X tons), India (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) - together made up 22% of total imports.
Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+30.4%), Pakistan (+26.9%), Qatar (+16.7%), Nepal (+10.3%), India (+7.1%), Malaysia (+6.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +30.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.1%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (-2.5%), South Korea (-3.9%), Cambodia (-6.2%) and Azerbaijan (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+45 p.p.), Myanmar (+3.3 p.p.) and Qatar (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Cambodia (-3 p.p.), South Korea (-3.2 p.p.), Azerbaijan (-4.6 p.p.), Lao People's Democratic Republic (-5.5 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-5.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like in Asia, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 5.4% share.
In the Philippines, articles of fiber cement imports expanded at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+0.6% per year) and South Korea (+2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -3.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
