Bleached Sulphite Pulp Market Size in Asia
In 2022, the Asian bleached sulphite pulp market decreased by -1.5% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Bleached Sulphite Pulp Production in Asia
In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 397% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Asia
After three years of decline, overseas shipments of bleached sulphite pulp increased by 16% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 180%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 81%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Indonesia represented the main exporter of bleached sulphite pulp in Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by China (16%). Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Indonesia decreased at an average annual rate of -9.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+85.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+28.5%), Turkey (+26.9%) and Jordan (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +85.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, China (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong SAR, Jordan, Turkey and China increased by +15, +4.2, +2.4, +2.1 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest bleached sulphite pulp supplying countries in Asia were Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 80% of total exports. Turkey, Hong Kong SAR and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +43.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2022, imports of bleached sulphite pulp in Asia fell sharply to X tons, shrinking by -23% compared with 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 28%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) represented the main importer of bleached sulphite pulp, creating 51% of total imports. Turkey (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by China (X tons) and Japan (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total imports. The following importers - Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 7.5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bleached sulphite pulp imports into Indonesia stood at +8.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+13.1%) and Vietnam (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Japan (-2.3%), China (-13.6%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-22.7%) and Jordan (-28.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Indonesia (+39 p.p.), Turkey (+19 p.p.), Japan (+1.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while China, Taiwan (Chinese) and Jordan saw its share reduced by -8.1%, -15.6% and -37.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 73% share of total imports.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +14.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Jordan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
