Brassiere Market Size in Asia

In 2021, the Asian brassiere market decreased by -7.5% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 20%. In 2021, overseas shipments of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated increased by 28% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 113%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, brassiere exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 71% of total exports in 2021. Bangladesh (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.9% share, followed by Vietnam (5.7%). Indonesia (X units), Sri Lanka (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to brassiere exports from China stood at +5.8%. At the same time, Vietnam (+23.2%), Bangladesh (+18.5%), Sri Lanka (+6.7%) and Indonesia (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +23.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Bangladesh (+5.7 p.p.) and Vietnam (+4.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -9.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest brassiere supplier in Asia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +5.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+21.2% per year) and Bangladesh (+20.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, rising by 3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 113% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

All these countries together held near 37% share of total imports. Bangladesh (X units), Kyrgyzstan (X units), Iraq (X units), Kazakhstan (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and China (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +55.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, China, Bangladesh, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Malaysia, Iraq and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +53.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
