The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) represented the largest exporter of broad beans and horse beans (dry), creating 54% of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and India (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to broad bean and horse bean exports from China stood at -1.5%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+43.7%), Syrian Arab Republic (+36.6%), India (+27.3%), the United Arab Emirates (+17.2%) and Turkey (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest broad bean and horse bean supplier in Asia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 7.3% share.
In China, broad bean and horse bean exports plunged by an average annual rate of -3.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Syrian Arab Republic (+28.9% per year) and Turkey (-3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 7.2% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of broad beans and horse beans (dry), when their volume decreased by -32.6% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, broad bean and horse bean imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild decrease. In value terms, the largest broad bean and horse bean importing markets in Asia were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Jordan ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. Japan, Thailand, Lebanon, Bahrain, Vietnam, Yemen, Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +31.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 38%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
