Cadmium Market Size in Asia

In 2022, the Asian cadmium market increased by 1.5% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. The total consumption indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +18.9% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +6.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Asia

In 2022, cadmium exports in Asia declined rapidly to X tons, with a decrease of -20.2% against the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cadmium exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Korea was the key exporter of cadmium in Asia, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 41% share of total exports. China (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Korea decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+13.1%), Kazakhstan (+5.9%) and China (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Hong Kong SAR increased by +13 and +7.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the largest cadmium supplier in Asia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR, with a 7.3% share.

In South Korea, cadmium exports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+7.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (+9.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 62%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia

In 2022, cadmium imports in Asia declined to X tons, waning by -4.7% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cadmium imports rose to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -9.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons) and China (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together making up 93% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), achieving a 5.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +30.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest cadmium importing markets in Asia were India ($X), China ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a combined 98% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +33.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 51% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
