Camel Meat Market Size in Asia

The Asian camel meat market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -3.1% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +3.9% against 2020 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Camel Meat Production in Asia

In value terms, camel meat production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 47%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of camel meat production, accounting for 42% of total volume. Moreover, camel meat production in Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Saudi Arabia amounted to +9.0%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the United Arab Emirates (+3.6% per year) and China (+7.7% per year).

In 2022, the average camel meat yield in Asia reduced modestly to X kg per head, remaining stable against 2021. Overall, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 2.5% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X kg per head in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for camel meat production in Asia contracted slightly to X heads, with a decrease of -2% on the year before. The total number of producing animals indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, number of animals slaughtered for camel meat production increased by +80.8% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, this number attained the maximum level at X heads in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports in Asia

In 2022, overseas shipments of camel meat decreased by -5.7% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 237% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, camel meat exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 357%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), making up a 30% share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +51.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+178.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +178.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Pakistan (+30 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-28.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022.

Pakistan, with a CAGR of +208.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+11.0%).

Imports in Asia

Camel meat imports declined to X tons in 2022, waning by -9.4% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 200%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, camel meat imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 194%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Oman dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 96% of total imports in 2022. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the camel meat imports, with a CAGR of +52.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kuwait (+42.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Oman (+24 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Oman ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported camel meat in Asia, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Oman stood at +51.4%.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -7.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman totaled $X per ton.
