As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest carbon electrode supplier in Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +9.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+0.1% per year) and Japan (-10.4% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 46%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of carbon electrodes increased by 20% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports posted a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 84%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbon electrode imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 165% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 36% of total imports. Iran (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by India (6.5%), Turkey (6%) and Bahrain (5.3%). South Korea (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +29.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest carbon electrode importing markets in Asia were Iran ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports. South Korea, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Taiwan (Chinese) and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +23.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -8.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carbon electrode import price decreased by -23.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 44%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
