In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of cauliflower and broccoli, when their volume increased by 98% to X tons. In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons) and Iran (X tons), together comprising a 13% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cauliflower and broccoli exports from China stood at +10.1%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+57.1%), Vietnam (+37.8%), Thailand (+24.9%), Turkey (+14.8%) and Iran (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +57.1% from 2012-2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +102.4% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Malaysia represented the largest importer of cauliflower and broccoli in Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 29% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together achieving a 44% share of total imports. Kuwait (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Oman (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cauliflower and broccoli imports into Malaysia stood at +5.4%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+22.9%), Iraq (+19.5%), Oman (+14.4%), Hong Kong SAR (+13.8%), Kuwait (+10.6%), Qatar (+5.3%), Bahrain (+4.9%), Thailand (+3.4%) and Singapore (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.3%), South Korea (-3.7%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Iraq (+4.9 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+4.3 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (+3.5 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.3 p.p.), Oman (+2.2 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Thailand, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -1.9%, -3.4%, -3.8% and -5.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cauliflower and broccoli in Asia, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia amounted to +11.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+2.9% per year) and Thailand (+6.8% per year).
