In 2022, shipments abroad of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, porcelain technical ware exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +90.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

China was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), making up a 31% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to porcelain technical ware exports from China stood at +3.5%. At the same time, Indonesia (+27.0%) and Malaysia (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +27.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Indonesia (+26 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of China (-15.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +37.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use decreased by -1.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, porcelain technical ware imports stood at $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Singapore (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), China (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the largest importers of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use, together generating 84% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +42.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest porcelain technical ware importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports. Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +38.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 15%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+11.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
