Other Cereals Market Size in Asia
In 2021, the Asian other cereals market decreased by -9.3% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Other Cereals Production in Asia
In value terms, other cereals production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +33.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 26%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were China (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together comprising 74% of total production. These countries were followed by Turkey, Lao People's Democratic Republic and India, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Turkey (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average other cereals yield shrank slightly to X tons per ha in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 5.2% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The other cereals harvested area fell modestly to X ha in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against 2020 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the harvested area increased by 29%. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the other cereals harvested area remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Asia
In 2021, overseas shipments of other cerealses decreased by -11.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other cereals exports declined to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the largest exporters of other cerealses, together creating 84% of total exports. The following exporters - Myanmar (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - together made up 10% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +83.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest other cereals supplying countries in Asia were India ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Myanmar, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, which together accounted for a further 9.3%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +67.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of other cerealses were imported in Asia; falling by -27.6% compared with 2020. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 75%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Yemen (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Oman (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the key importers of other cerealses, together mixing up 68% of total imports. The following importers - Pakistan (X tons), Israel (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Cyprus (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +198.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Palestine ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported other cerealses in Asia, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Palestine totaled -3.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+17.5% per year) and Israel (+7.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 158%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Palestine ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
