The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 17%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, chili and pepper exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Turkey (X tons) and China (X tons) represented roughly 44% of total exports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.2% share, followed by India (8.5%), Myanmar (5.8%), Israel (5.3%) and Jordan (4.5%). The following exporters - South Korea (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Iran (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 15% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +67.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest chili and pepper supplying countries in Asia were Turkey ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 54% share of total exports. Israel, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Myanmar, Jordan, Iran, Cambodia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

Among the main exporting countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +56.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Chili and pepper imports rose to X tons in 2022, growing by 3.7% compared with 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +6.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, chili and pepper imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +8.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 23%. Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 33% of total imports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.8% share, followed by Iraq (7.9%), the United Arab Emirates (7.8%), Kazakhstan (6.3%), Japan (5.8%) and China (5%). Kuwait (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +274.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest chili and pepper importing markets in Asia were Japan ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for 43% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Armenia and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.

Among the main importing countries, China, with a CAGR of +271.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
