Clove Production in Asia
In value terms, clove production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of clove production was Indonesia (X tons), comprising approx. 93% of total volume. Moreover, clove production in Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Sri Lanka (X tons), more than tenfold.
In Indonesia, clove production expanded at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sri Lanka (+3.9% per year) and Singapore (-11.2% per year).

From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, clove exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -14.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together generating 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons) and India (X tons), together creating a 15% share of total exports. China (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +28.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest clove supplying countries in Asia were Singapore ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X), with a combined 87% share of total exports. India, China and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
China, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Clove imports contracted to X tons in 2022, declining by -6% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, clove imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, India (X tons), distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), China (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main importers of cloves, together constituting 78% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +64.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest clove importing markets in Asia were India ($X), Singapore ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +39.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
