Composite Paperboard Market Size in Asia

The Asian composite paperboard market totaled $X in 2021, growing by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 20%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, composite paperboard exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. South Korea (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the key exporters of composite paper and paperboard in 2021, accounting for near 24% and 19% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together constituting a 40% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +75.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, India and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. In value terms, the largest composite paperboard importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports. Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Israel, India, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan (Chinese) and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
