Composite Paperboard Market Size in Asia
The Asian composite paperboard market totaled $X in 2021, growing by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the market value increased by 5.9% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X tons of composite paper and paperboard were exported in Asia; with an increase of 9.8% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 20%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, composite paperboard exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Korea (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the key exporters of composite paper and paperboard in 2021, accounting for near 24% and 19% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together constituting a 40% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +75.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, India and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +71.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of composite paper and paperboard were imported in Asia; rising by 4.4% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, composite paperboard imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented the key importers of composite paper and paperboard in 2021, amounting to near 21% and 14% of total imports, respectively. Vietnam (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together held near 25% share of total imports. South Korea (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), India (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +23.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest composite paperboard importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports. Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, Israel, India, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan (Chinese) and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +12.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
