Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 51% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per cubic meter), while Democratic People's Republic of Korea ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of coniferous wood in the rough increased by 4% to X cubic meters, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, coniferous wood in rough imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coniferous wood in the rough imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X cubic meters) was the major importer of coniferous wood in the rough, committing 41% of total imports. Bangladesh (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Pakistan (9.5%), Bahrain (8.7%), Hong Kong SAR (5.9%), Vietnam (5%) and India (4.6%).

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +70.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-3.6%), Vietnam (-10.8%) and India (-36.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+41 p.p.), Bangladesh (+17 p.p.), Pakistan (+9.5 p.p.), Bahrain (+8.7 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (+5.9 p.p.) and Vietnam (+4.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest coniferous wood in the rough importing markets in Asia were Vietnam ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), together accounting for 52% of total imports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, Hong Kong SAR, India and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 30%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +29.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, with a decrease of -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per cubic meter), while Bahrain ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
