The Asian market for copper bars, rods and profiles shrank modestly to $X in 2022, declining by -4.5% against the previous year. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 53%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented roughly 39% of total exports in 2022. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Japan (11%), Thailand (9.7%), Turkey (7.5%), China (6.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper bar, rod and profile supplying countries in Asia were South Korea ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Japan ($X), together accounting for 46% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), China, Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Among the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +11.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, leveling off in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported copper bars, rods and profiles in Asia, comprising 21% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to -2.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (-8.4% per year) and Thailand (+2.8% per year).
