The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cucumber and gherkin exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the largest exporter of cucumbers and gherkins, generating 38% of total exports. Afghanistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by China (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 48% share of total exports. The following exporters - Jordan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each amounted to an 8% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Afghanistan (+91.1%), Uzbekistan (+7.2%) and Malaysia (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Afghanistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +91.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, China (-8.2%), Iran (-9.3%) and Jordan (-19.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Malaysia increased by +17, +16, +3.8 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Afghanistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 70% of total exports.

Afghanistan, with a CAGR of +71.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 11%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+16.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of cucumbers and gherkins were imported in Asia; stabilizing at the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cucumber and gherkin imports into Iraq stood at +40.2%. At the same time, Pakistan (+86.0%), Hong Kong SAR (+19.5%), Georgia (+7.2%), Kuwait (+5.4%) and Qatar (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +86.0% from 2012-2022. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iraq, Pakistan and Hong Kong SAR increased by +47, +18 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively.
