Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, currant and gooseberry exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 84%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Lebanon was the major exporter of currants and gooseberries in Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together generating a 25% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons), Georgia (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Iran (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to currant and gooseberry exports from Lebanon stood at +45.1%. At the same time, Georgia (+169.4%), India (+42.9%), Azerbaijan (+29.3%), Oman (+10.5%) and Saudi Arabia (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Georgia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +169.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iran (-19.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Lebanon, India, Azerbaijan and Georgia increased by +50, +18, +3.4 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Lebanon ($X) remains the largest currant and gooseberry supplier in Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 5.6% share.
In Lebanon, currant and gooseberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +60.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+51.4% per year) and Azerbaijan (+35.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of currants and gooseberries increased by 110% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, currant and gooseberry imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 83% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), comprising a 4.9% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Qatar (with a CAGR of +40.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Qatar ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 80% of total imports.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +39.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -34.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
