Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of plastic tableware and kitchenware exported in Asia expanded rapidly to X tons, surging by 7.1% on 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +75.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), mixing up a 5.9% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and India (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from China stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+13.7%), Turkey (+10.0%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012-2022. India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. China (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while India saw its share reduced by -1.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware supplier in Asia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +15.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+9.6% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Plastic Tableware And Kitchenware
Imports in Asia
Plastic tableware and kitchenware imports reduced to X tons in 2022, which is down by -6.3% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware, namely Saudi Arabia, Japan, Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, Israel, Indonesia, Iraq, Kuwait and Vietnam, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 32% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Singapore, Israel, Vietnam, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 8.7%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
