In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), mixing up a 5.9% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and India (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from China stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+13.7%), Turkey (+10.0%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Plastic tableware and kitchenware imports reduced to X tons in 2022, which is down by -6.3% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

The purchases of the twelve major importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware, namely Saudi Arabia, Japan, Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, Israel, Indonesia, Iraq, Kuwait and Vietnam, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Japan ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 32% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Singapore, Israel, Vietnam, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 8.7%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
