Turkey (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The purchases of the three major importers of dried or smoked fish, namely China, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, represented more than half of total import. South Korea (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Japan (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 19% share of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried or smoked fish in Asia, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hong Kong SAR totaled -1.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-6.0% per year) and China (+26.5% per year).
