Uzbekistan prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons), together achieving a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up 7.9% of total exports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried prunes exports, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Afghanistan (+20.7%), Turkey (+14.8%), Iran (+9.0%) and China (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-4.0%) and Hong Kong SAR (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +50 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest dried prune supplier in Asia, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Uzbekistan totaled +24.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+20.5% per year) and China (-5.6% per year).

Dried prune imports soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 40% against the year before. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +102.7% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The following importers - Vietnam (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), India (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+52.6%), Turkey (+24.8%), Kazakhstan (+21.3%), India (+17.2%), Israel (+5.5%), Vietnam (+1.3%) and South Korea (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +52.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-4.6%) and Japan (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Pakistan (+15 p.p.), China (+14 p.p.), Turkey (+9 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.8 p.p.) and India (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia and Japan saw its share reduced by -2.2% and -25.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 66% share of total imports. Israel, South Korea, Vietnam, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Among the main importing countries, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +43.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
