In value terms, India ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 31% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the Philippines, Myanmar and Iran, which together accounted for a further 49%.

Among the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +30.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
