In value terms, fireclay exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) represented the largest exporter of fireclay in Asia, comprising 98% of total export.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fireclay exports, with a CAGR of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +5.7 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest fireclay supplier in Asia.

Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -1.3% per year.
Fireclay Imports
Imports in Asia
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of fireclay, when their volume increased by 1% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fireclay imports declined to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -23.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented roughly 42% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together generating a 38% share of total imports. The following importers - Iran (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +44.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Turkey ($X) and China ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 32% of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Japan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, which together accounted for a further 60%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +44.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -9.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fireclay import price decreased by -14.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 31%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
