In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and India ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Myanmar, South Korea, Pakistan and Oman, which together accounted for a further 27%.

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 25%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +15.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +17.1% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.7%) and Japan (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, China and Thailand increased by +5.9, +3.5 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs in Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 5.4% share.
