In 2021, shipments abroad of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts decreased by -12.1% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, complex fluorine salts exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), creating a 5.9% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), India (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from China decreased at an average annual rate of -1.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+14.9%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-1.7%), Japan (-2.9%), Jordan (-6.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, South Korea and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +4, +3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest complex fluorine salts supplier in Asia, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +6.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+24.7% per year) and Japan (+1.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a buoyant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts increased by 8.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, complex fluorine salts imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +27.0% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the major importers of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts, together mixing up 68% of total imports. China (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Iran (X tons), Oman (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to complex fluorine salts imports into India stood at +7.3%. At the same time, Malaysia (+17.4%), Turkey (+8.9%), Japan (+5.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+4.9%), Iran (+4.7%), South Korea (+4.7%), Thailand (+3.8%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2021. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Oman (-1.4%), Bahrain (-3.7%) and China (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India, Malaysia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Japan increased by +16, +11, +4.6, +3.3, +3.3 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest complex fluorine salts importing markets in Asia were South Korea ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. India, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Iran and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +20.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, complex fluorine salts import price increased by +117.4% against 2012 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+19.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
