Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +76.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports totaled $X in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +109.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, Jordan (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented the major exporters of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Asia, together accounting for approx. 42% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons), India (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Georgia (X tons), together mixing up a 41% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +148.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 94% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia

In 2021, the amount of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines imported in Asia expanded rapidly to X tons, rising by 5.1% against the year before. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +89.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +104.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

China was the largest importer of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), India (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons), together making up a 40% share of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+58.6%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+42.7%), Malaysia (+30.0%), Saudi Arabia (+7.9%), India (+4.5%) and the Philippines (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +58.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Malaysia, Israel and Lao People's Democratic Republic increased by +11, +7.3, +4.5 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Asia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 1.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +5.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-1.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+18.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+9.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
