In 2021, exports of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken in Asia soared to X tons, with an increase of 35% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded prominent growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fresh chicken cut exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded prominent growth. The shipments of the three major exporters of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken, namely Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Jordan, represented more than half of total export. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.9% share, followed by Oman (9.4%), Turkey (8.8%) and China (5.6%).

As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh chicken cut imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 62%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The following importers - Bahrain (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Macao SAR (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fresh chicken cut imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +23.9%. At the same time, Hong Kong SAR (+39.9%), Myanmar (+37.4%), Macao SAR (+29.4%), Syrian Arab Republic (+28.3%), Kyrgyzstan (+20.4%), Kuwait (+19.4%), Saudi Arabia (+14.6%), Bahrain (+9.6%), Malaysia (+6.5%) and Iraq (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hong Kong SAR emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.3%) and Vietnam (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Myanmar, Hong Kong SAR, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia increased by +20, +11, +11, +3.7 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled cuts of chicken in Asia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +25.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+29.8% per year) and Kuwait (+22.0% per year).

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%.
