Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Indonesia (X tons) was the largest exporter of frozen eels, achieving X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), India (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. Iran (X tons) and China (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen eels exports from Indonesia stood at +X%. At the same time, Iran (+X%), Malaysia (+X%), China (+X%) and Pakistan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. By contrast, India (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen eels imports declined to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of import peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
China represented the major importer of frozen eels in Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2020. Malaysia (X tons) occupied a X% share (based on tons) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (X%) and Hong Kong SAR (X%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
