The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +66.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 57% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Grape juice (single strength) exports declined sharply to X tons in 2021, waning by -20.2% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cyprus represented the major exporter of grape juice (single strength) in Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Uzbekistan (5.5%). Thailand (X tons), China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grape juice (single strength) exports from Cyprus stood at +12.9%. At the same time, Thailand (+38.0%), Vietnam (+26.4%) and Palestine (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +38.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.2%), Turkey (-2.7%), China (-2.9%), Malaysia (-13.6%) and Uzbekistan (-29.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cyprus (+29 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.5 p.p.), Thailand (+3.2 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while China, Turkey and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -3.8%, -11.3% and -12.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cyprus ($X) remains the largest grape juice (single strength) supplier in Asia, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 5.2% share.

In Cyprus, grape juice (single strength) exports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-3.6% per year) and China (-1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of grape juice (single strength), which increased by 3.9% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +60.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 51%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Israel (X tons) and China (X tons) represented roughly 65% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), constituting a 9.8% share of total imports. Japan (X tons), Qatar (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +62.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), China ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports. Japan, Qatar, South Korea and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +74.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 9.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
