Graphite Market Size in Asia

In 2021, the Asian graphite market decreased by -0.7% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of graphite (natural) was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In 2021, China (X tons), Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and India (X tons) was the major importer of graphite (natural) in Asia, making up 81% of total import. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), comprising a 5.2% share of total imports. The following importers - Thailand (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - each reached a 7.7% share of total imports.

Import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, graphite import price increased by +57.2% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell modestly in the following year.
