The Asian groundnuts market totaled $X in 2022, rising by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Groundnuts Production in Asia
In value terms, groundnuts production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were China (X tons), India (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together accounting for 94% of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +8.0%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average groundnuts yield rose slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, surging by 4.3% on 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the yield increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the groundnuts yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The groundnuts harvested area reduced to X ha in 2022, declining by -5.2% on the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports in Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of ground-nut (in-shell) were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, groundnuts exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons), China (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) represented roughly 72% of total exports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 12% share of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +91.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest groundnuts supplying countries in Asia were China ($X), Israel ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 61% of total exports. Uzbekistan, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Vietnam and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
Among the main exporting countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +78.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -14.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
Groundnuts imports shrank notably to X tons in 2022, falling by -41.3% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 65% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), constituting a 6.7% share of total imports. Nepal (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ground-nut (in-shell) imports, with a CAGR of +34.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+15.8%), Afghanistan (+7.1%), Nepal (+6.9%), Vietnam (+5.0%), Hong Kong SAR (+2.4%) and Thailand (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.1%) and Kazakhstan (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan and Thailand increased by +62, +2.9, +2.4, +2.1 and +2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ground-nut (in-shell) in Asia, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with a 4% share.
In China, groundnuts imports increased at an average annual rate of +37.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+1.9% per year) and Afghanistan (+13.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
