China was the main exporter of hair sprays in Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 51% of total exports in 2022. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hair spray imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +7.4%. At the same time, South Korea (+15.0%), China (+7.7%), Iraq (+7.3%), Thailand (+6.5%), Singapore (+5.2%), Turkey (+3.0%) and Malaysia (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012-2022. Taiwan (Chinese) and Israel experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.5%), Hong Kong SAR (-8.0%) and Uzbekistan (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), China (+4.4 p.p.), South Korea (+4.1 p.p.), Iraq (+3.5 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.), Turkey (+1.9 p.p.) and Singapore (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-3 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-4.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest hair spray importing markets in Asia were China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, China, with a CAGR of +11.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
