Hand Saw Market Size in Asia
The Asian hand saw market rose remarkably to $X in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Hand Saw Production in Asia
In value terms, hand saw production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of hand saws decreased by -17.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, hand saw exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +46.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), achieving a 4.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - each recorded a 6.2% share of total exports.
China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of hand saws. At the same time, Vietnam (+59.9%), Japan (+6.7%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +59.9% from 2012-2022. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam increased by +2.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest hand saw supplier in Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 6.7% share.
In China, hand saw exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+3.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 16%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hand saws decreased by -3.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +9.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hand saw imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons), distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), India (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented the major importers of hand saws, together achieving 60% of total imports. The following importers - Bangladesh (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Japan (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 22% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +30.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Japan ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 29% share of total imports. Thailand, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, India, Iraq, Bangladesh, Turkey, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +41.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+15.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
