Headphone Market Size in Asia
The Asian headphone market reduced sharply to $X in 2022, which is down by -20.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Headphone Production in Asia
In value terms, headphone production dropped dramatically to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 68%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of headphones increased by 9.5% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after five years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, headphone exports rose to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -22.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) represented the largest exporter of headphones, creating 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), mixing up a 12% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of headphones. At the same time, Vietnam (+32.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +32.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam increased by +11 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest headphone supplying countries in Asia were China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), together accounting for 84% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 272% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+13.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Asia
For the fifth year in a row, Asia recorded decline in supplies from abroad of headphones, which decreased by -10.9% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 14%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, headphone imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) was the largest importer of headphones, mixing up 41% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X units) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (11%), Singapore (6%) and Japan (5.1%). The following importers - Vietnam (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Thailand (X units) - together made up 13% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to headphone imports into China stood at -1.9%. At the same time, Thailand (+17.4%), the Philippines (+12.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+10.0%) and Singapore (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, India (-7.5%), Japan (-10.7%), Vietnam (-10.8%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-11.0%) and Hong Kong SAR (-18.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines increased by +21, +5, +2.6 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($X), India ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 43% share of total imports. China, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +27.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 25%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+25.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
