The Asian chicken egg market reached $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In 2022, shipments abroad of chicken eggs increased by 3% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +22.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg exports soared to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Turkey (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) represented roughly 58% of total exports in 2022. China (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Malaysia (9.3%). Japan (X tons), India (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +48.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest chicken egg supplier in Asia, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 15% share.

In Turkey, chicken egg exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+5.7% per year) and Malaysia (+1.9% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild decline. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, chicken egg imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) represented the largest importers of chicken eggs in Asia, together finishing at approx. 40% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (11%), Uzbekistan (6.4%), Saudi Arabia (4.7%) and Qatar (4.7%). Oman (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Macao SAR (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +67.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest chicken egg importing markets in Asia were Iraq ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kazakhstan, Syrian Arab Republic, Bahrain, Macao SAR, Mongolia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +49.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+26.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
