In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest preserved herring supplier in Asia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at -2.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+2.6% per year) and Vietnam (-16.2% per year).
