Hop Market Size in Asia

The Asian hop market reached $X in 2022, increasing by 4% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hop production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 382% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of hop production, accounting for 64% of total volume. Moreover, hop production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 7.4% share.

The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hop exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw prominent growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), China (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the key exporters of hops, together achieving 88% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) and India (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +103.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Vietnam (X tons) took an 8.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (6%) and Thailand (5.5%). From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
