In 2021, the amount of ignition magnetos, magneto-dynamos and magnetic flywheels exported in Asia skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, ignition magneto exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 64% of total exports. India (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Indonesia (X units). All these countries together held near 26% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cambodia (X units) and Thailand (X units) - together made up 4.9% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ignition magneto exports from China stood at +7.7%. At the same time, India (+9.2%) and Indonesia (+8.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-10.2%) and Cambodia (-23.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+9.1 p.p.), India (+5 p.p.) and Cambodia (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-7.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest ignition magneto supplier in Asia, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with an 11% share.
In China, ignition magneto exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+5.3% per year) and Cambodia (+7.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+40.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of ignition magnetos, magneto-dynamos and magnetic flywheels increased by 22% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ignition magneto imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -1.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia was the key importer of ignition magnetos, magneto-dynamos and magnetic flywheels in Asia, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 37% of total imports in 2021. Thailand (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), Bangladesh (X units), India (X units) and China (X units). All these countries together took near 44% share of total imports. Japan (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Japan (+49.9%), Bangladesh (+42.4%), Thailand (+22.4%), China (+11.3%) and Vietnam (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +49.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+13 p.p.), Bangladesh (+7.2 p.p.), Japan (+3.9 p.p.), Indonesia (+2.7 p.p.) and China (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-8.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Bangladesh, Japan and India, which together accounted for a further 16%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +36.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, falling by -10.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 30%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
