Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+26.5%), South Korea (+6.3%), Turkey (+6.2%) and Japan (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2021. Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-1.3%), India (-1.6%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.5%) and Malaysia (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+18 p.p.), the Philippines (+3.9 p.p.) and South Korea (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese) and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -1.5%, -1.9% and -9.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Singapore ($X) and Japan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan (Chinese), India and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 31%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +22.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
