Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. China (X tons) took a 5.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (4.6%). India (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+34.0%) and China (+12.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia, with a CAGR of +34.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, India (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+4.2 p.p.) and China (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkey (-1.5 p.p.) and India (-3.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest lemon and lime supplier in Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 9.5% share.

In Turkey, lemon and lime exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+9.4% per year) and Vietnam (+34.7% per year).

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -4.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable reduction. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, lemon and lime imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -18.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 52%. In 2022, Iraq (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the main importers of lemons and limes, together comprising 58% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), South Korea (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and China (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +39.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Iraq ($X), Japan ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 47% share of total imports. South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Kuwait, Qatar, Azerbaijan, China, Singapore and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +51.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
