Linoleum Market Size in Asia

In 2021, the Asian linoleum market increased by 4.2% to $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, linoleum production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X square meters of linoleum were exported in Asia; falling by -20% compared with the previous year. In general, exports showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linoleum exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 68%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, linoleum imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.0% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2021, the Philippines (X square meters), distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X square meters), Myanmar (X square meters), Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Kyrgyzstan (X square meters) represented the key importers of linoleum, together mixing up 80% of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X square meters) and Tajikistan (X square meters) - each resulted at a 6.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +151.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Tajikistan ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and Azerbaijan, which together accounted for a further 18%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +87.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per square meter, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per square meter), while Myanmar ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+13.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
