In general, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The export price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 156%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bitumen mixer imports declined slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. By contrast, the Philippines (-5.7%), Singapore (-9.3%), Qatar (-21.4%) and Turkmenistan (-44.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Afghanistan and Myanmar increased by +66, +3.2, +2.1 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the Philippines ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 15% share of total imports. Afghanistan, Myanmar, Singapore, Turkmenistan and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 2.1%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Afghanistan, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 121% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 201% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
