Maltodextrine Market Size in Asia

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Asian maltodextrine market, when its value decreased by -4.3% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the market value increased by 6.9%. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

For the sixth year in a row, Asia recorded growth in overseas shipments of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, which increased by 3.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, maltodextrine exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the key exporters of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup in 2021, accounting for approx. 36% and 28% of total exports, respectively. Turkey (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 23% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +45.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 68% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +31.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup decreased by -22.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, maltodextrine imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

China prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 54% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) took a 9.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (6.1%), South Korea (5.1%) and Thailand (5%). The following importers - Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup imports, with a CAGR of +59.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+12.4%), Thailand (+12.3%), Singapore (+4.0%), Malaysia (+3.5%) and the Philippines (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Korea (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+51 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea saw its share reduced by -3.8%, -4.1%, -4.7%, -9.4% and -14.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup in Asia, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.1% share.

In China, maltodextrine imports expanded at an average annual rate of +34.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+10.4% per year) and South Korea (-1.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
